
Archbishop Aurel Perca, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bucharest, was born on August 15, 1951, in Sabaoani. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1979, in Iasi. Following his studies in Rome, he obtained a licentiate degree in Patristic Theology from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome and a licentiate degree in Moral Theology from the Alphonsian Academy in Rome.
He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Iasi on September 29, 1999, by Saint Pope John Paul II.
He was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bucharest on November 21, 2019, by Pope Francis. He took possession of his office as Metropolitan Archbishop of Bucharest on January 11, 2020, during the Holy Mass celebrated in Saint Joseph Cathedral.
