
Archbishop Ioan Robu, the Metropolitan Archbishop, is the sixth archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest.
Born in Târgu Secuiesc in 1944, and a graduate of the Roman Catholic Theological Institute of Iași, he was ordained a priest on August 15, 1968. He obtained a Doctorate in Sacred Theology in Rome after his studies at the Alphonsian Academy of the Pontifical Lateran University.
He was chosen as diocesan administrator on December 1, 1983, then as Apostolic Administrator and Bishop on October 25, 1984, before being consecrated titular bishop of Cellae in Proconsulari on December 8, 1984, in Rome by Cardinal Secretary of State Agostino Casaroli.
He was elevated to the rank of archbishop on April 29, 1990, in the presence of Archbishop Angelo Sodano, representative of Saint Pope John Paul II.
